Sydney staple, Splitch, brings to us his debut release for Big Ting Recordings, a sample-heavy juxtaposition of deep basslines and vibrant breakbeats. The A-side ‘Apex,’ a summertime anthem, combines melodies reminiscent of the hardcore era and the crunch of modern day broken-beat music. Track two, ‘Mesmerized’, again pays homage to some classic bass music sounds, a 2-step driven rhythm, with LFO driven basslines set to tear down any low-lit warehouse. 99 Nissan Patrol rounds up the release with his half-time drum & bass influenced version of Mesmerized, complete with 808 jungle style bass and crisp precise percussion.
Apex/Mesmerized brings to light more of the traditional sounds Big Ting Recordings has been known for since its inception. Driven by saturated breakbeats and basslines, it is an amalgamation of the many different styles of bass music the Sydney-siders love.
